8 Ways to Save Money on Tape Hair Extensions (Without Compromising on Results)

One of the biggest myths about hair extensions is that you need a full head of extensions to achieve beautiful results.

The truth? Most women don't, especially with Tape Extensions.

Over the years we've helped thousands of women with everything from adding subtle fullness around the face to creating dramatic transformations. One thing we've learnt is that it's not always about more hair, it's about putting the right hair in the right places and using industry secrets to make your investment go further.

Here are eight simple ways to make tape extensions more affordable without compromising on beautiful, natural-looking results.

1. Mix Invisible Tapes with Regular Tapes

This is probably our favourite money-saving tip.

Invisible Tape Extensions are fantastic for disguising the tapes on fine hair because hair is injected through the top of the adhesive.

But here's an industry secret...

You don't necessarily need every tape to be invisible.

Ask your stylist to use Invisible Tapes around the top and sides, where they may be visible, and Regular Tapes underneath, where they're hidden by your own hair.

You'll still achieve a beautifully natural finish while reducing the overall cost.

2. Add Hair Only Where You Need It

One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming they need a full head.

If your concern is:

  • thinner sides
  • finer front sections
  • lack of volume around the face

Sometimes just 10–20 tapes can make an incredible difference.

Strategic placement often looks more natural and costs much less.

3. Choose Volume Instead of Length

Longer extensions require more hair to create a balanced look.

If you choose a shoulder-length bob or lob instead of long, flowing hair, you can often achieve fantastic density with fewer packs.

Less hair, Lower cost, Beautiful results.

4. Buy Better Hair Once

Cheap extensions often end up being expensive.

If they only last a few months before becoming dry or tangled, you'll be replacing them far sooner.

Premium human hair can often be reused for anything between 6 months and a year and in many cases much longer with excellent care, making it a better long-term investment.

5. Look After Them Properly

Good-quality human hair tape extensions are designed to be reused. The better you care for them, the longer they'll last.

That means:

✔ sulphate-free shampoo

✔ conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends

✔ heat protection

✔ regular brushing

✔ keeping maintenance appointments

Looking after your extensions can save you far more than replacing them early.

6. Choose Colours That Work With Your Hair

Instead of the cost of colouring your natural hair every few weeks...

Many women use balayage or highlighted extensions to add lighter tones through the lengths.

This can reduce the amount of bleaching or colouring needed on your own hair, potentially saving money at the salon while being kinder to your hair.

7. Build Your Hair Over Time

You don't have to buy everything at once.

Many women start with:

✔ volume around the face

Then later add:

✔ extra fullness

✔ extra length

✔ more colour dimension

Building your hair gradually can spread the cost while still giving you a confidence boost from day one.

8. Split Your Packs With A Friend

If you and a friend only need a few tape extensions and are lucky enough to share the same hair shade, you can share the cost of a pack between you both.

The Girl Math

Sometimes it's useful to think about the cost in terms of cost per wear, so we've taken our most popular shade of invisible tapes (Rooted Supermodel) in the most popular length (18") and calculated cost per average wear:

18" Rooted Supermodel Invisible Tape Extensions (2 packs) £180
Shipping (Free on orders over £50) £0
15% Email Subscriber Discount  £27
TOTAL £153

£153 divided by 274 days (conservative estimate of 9 months wear)

= 55 pence per wear!

Even before reuse beyond nine months of wear, the cost per wear is surprisingly low compared with many fashion purchases.
