INTERVIEW WITH... MARCOS PEREZ

INTERVIEW WITH... MARCOS PEREZ

We've been working with International Hair Stylist Marcos Perez and decided to make the most of the opportunity to ask him some questions about how he got into hair, how he found the move from Barcelona to the UK and what he feels is the secret to the success he enjoys. Hailing from Barcelona originally but now based out of Manchester, Marcos is proof that passion and a commitment to continuously develop are a good foundation to build a successful career within the industry.

Can you tell us how you got into the Industry? Did you need any specific qualifications to be able to work as a session stylist?

I always loved hairdressing since I was a little kid, I remember my mum taking me to the salon with her for her colour appointments and I would always be fascinated. I started hair at the age of 16 as an apprentice, this was back in Barcelona where I’m from, then I decided to move to London where I started to get involved in hair shows, fashion shoots and all things hair. I didn’t need any specific qualifications apart from my NVQ’s that all hairdressers need. I guess when you know you have a passion for styling it comes natural to you, and there is loads of education online.

You work with some really notable brands creating a plethora of looks. Is there any one look you’ve created over the years that stands out as your favourite - what was it and why did you enjoy creating it so much?

Model with natural Hair

I do work with quite a few bands, but I would say this image it’s very special, I did this look for my very first hair competition in the UK. The look it’s quite dated now but it reminds me of how anything it’s possible, I just had moved to the UK, my English wasn’t the best and I had no budget at all but I still managed to find a model, photographer and get to the finals on the competition.

We absolutely love your insta grid and reels. Any hints and tips for creating slick photos and videos?

Be consistent and keep your eyes peeled for the next thing always, I try to record as much as I can to have the content on my phone then decide what’s goes on my grid.

And has the increase in the popularity of Insta Reels and Tik Toks made your job easier or harder?

Definitely harder, a still image it’s much easier to post. Tik Tok and Insta Reels are not only longer to post but you have to spend the time editing it all and making sure you pick the right song to go with it.

You are in constant demand for photo shoots. Is there a particular shoot location that stands out for you over the years?  What made it so memorable?

Shooting in Barcelona it’s always special.

What are the top three hair-styling products in your kit bag right now that you could not be without?

1. Style on steroids 2. Pop&Lock 3. Cult Favorite by Color Wow

What’s next in the world of Marcos Perez?  You are smashing it at the moment, but what is on your manifestation board for the future?

I would like to do more Celebrity styling and travel.
