Inventory and Buying Assistant - 6 month work placement with potential of permanent job

Due to expansion and growth, an opportunity is available to join the warehouse team of an online retail company in the hair and beauty sector.  Established nearly 15 years ago, we are an international, award-winning business and one of the leading brands in our industry

We work hard here, but like to have a laugh too.  The time goes quickly and there’s never a dull moment. Your time will be split between office and warehouse environments.  In this role you will learn how to measure quality through control procedures, how to conduct stock takes and the importance of managing warehouse space efficiently. You will have the opportunity to learn popular e-commerce IT systems and apps. This is a varied role with potential for permanent appointment at the end of the placement.

Duties will include performing regular stock audits with our backend inventory system; assisting with incoming deliveries to unload, unpack and update our inventory levels; picking, packing and despatching orders for customers; purchase order processing; maintaining product data and keeping the warehouse area tidy to a help maintain a safe operating environment.  We are a small company so you will occasionally be asked to help out other teams, for example, responding to customer enquiries.  It gives you a good opportunity to see different aspects of an e-commerce business.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

No prior experience is required, but this role will likely appeal to applicants who like working with facts and figures and can work in an organised and methodical way.  The successful candidate will have a good attention to detail and an ability to work quickly with a high level of accuracy.  

Good time management and team working skills are essential to ensure the smooth running of the warehouse.  

Full training will be provided on all in-house systems, but a level of confidence in using computers and IT, such as sending and receiving emails and using MS Office applications would be beneficial.    

A good standard of numeracy is beneficial for this role.

You will need to plan and prioritise your own workload, but we will give you lots of support as you get settled in.

Working pattern and contracted hours    

25 hours per week over 4 days between 9:30 and 4:30.  You’ll get every Saturday and Sunday off, plus another day off during the week. Some flexibility may be possible but you will be working out of our Torquay based HQ.

Hourly rate of pay

National Minimum Wage or Living Wage appropriate to age plus up to £1000 bonus (pro rata) on successful completion of placement.
