Weft Extensions: Everything you need to know
Let’s be honest – we all dream about having thick, gorgeous hair that falls beautifully down our backs and makes us look we have stepped right out off the red carpet. Luckily there are more than a few options to achieve your dream hair!
When it comes to hair extensions, the choices can start to feel overwhelming. We are here to help; read on to learn everything you need to know about weft extensions.
Weft extensions are a collection of hair strands sewn onto a super thin weft ready for your extensionist to work into your hair.
Our double drawn, long lifespan weft can be removed and reapplied several times giving you up to a year of usage with good aftercare and maintenance. They are designed for professional application and are supplied with discreet narrow track; suitable for braided and micro ring weave application methods.

There are many different ways that Weft Extensions are fitted, such as Celebrity Weave / LA Weave, the more traditional braided method and the newer Naked / Invisi Weave method. Weft extensions are a popular choice – and for good reason.
Adding both length and volume relatively quickly, you will notice more than a few celebrities rocking Hair Rehab London wefts such as Towie’s Ella Rae Wise and Kelsey Stratford and Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson. We even teach the celebrity weave method at our Academy. If you are interested in learning this popular method, take a look at our Academy and everything it has to offer! (link to academy details)
What is a Celebrity / LA Weave?
The celebrity weave works by creating a “track” with your natural hair using micro rings then sewing the weft to the track using a curved weft needle and specific weft thread. This method can be fitted without harming your natural hair or scalp. Your extensionist will start at the nape of your neck and fit the weft in horizontal sections upwards. [add HEA weft images] A good celebrity weave cannot be seen when your hair is worn natural and can be styled and shaped as normal- our high-quality Luxe Weft Extensions are perfect for a celebrity weave.
What is Naked / Invisi Weave?
This is just a slight variation in the way the weft is applied to track, applied both underneath and above the track of micro rings, it leaves a ‘naked’ or ‘invisible’ finish as it hides the micro rings.
What is the Braided method?
A braided weft is ideal for coarse or thicker hair as your hair is braided to create a base for the weft extensions to be sewn onto, this can reduce some of your own hair volume. The wefts are sewn into the braids using a needle and thread.
What are the benefits of weft extensions?
Weft hair extensions are extremely flexible and versatile and guarantee a seamless finish. They are also long lasting, and durable compared to other methods, lending themselves to be refitted a number of times which saves you money! They offer very little damage to your natural hair when securely fitted onto your scalp and are easy to remove by simply cutting the thread making maintenance and refitting appointments often cheaper than some of the other methods.
How long do wefts last?
Hair Rehab London Wefts last for 9-12 months with the correct care and maintenance and we often receive rave reviews on our quality. Take a look at our previous blog on how to care for your extensions to get the most out of them. Depending how quickly your own hair grows, you would be looking to have your weft extensions refitted every 6-8 weeks
Are wefts easy to remove?
Yes! Your hair extensions specialist should be able to quickly and carefully snip the string used to sew the weft of hair to the sectioned-off hair. The weft is then removed and where appropriate, all micro rings removed, without causing any damage to your natural hair or scalp. It is strongly recommended that the removal of weft extensions is conducted by a professional hair extension specialist, who is trained in the technique. If you attempt to remove your extensions yourself there is a strong possibility you can cut your natural hair and damage it. You can find a list of salons and extensionists in your area by searching on our Salon Finder.
How long does it take to fit a weft?
Getting a weft fitted to your hair usually takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the thickness of your hair, the number of ‘layers’ of weft you require and the skill of your hair extension specialist. Blending your natural hair into the extensions can be easily achieved in as little as a few minutes, however if you require your extensions to be coloured or toned, this may had extra hours to the fitting.
